Bug Quest

Web Quest - Grade 8 - Gross!! You're Going to Eat That?!?

Introduction - They're creepy and crawly. They hide in your wall-y. You might catch or squish, but on your supper dish??? Would you eat a bug or worm? Billy from How to Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell was offered $50 to eat 15 worms in 15 days. It's not as crazy as it sounds. Many people around the world eat insects regularly. How about a bowl of grubs?

The Task - Your luck has changed and you just won the Illinois Lottery. With your $17,000,000, you have decided to open up a new and unique restaurant. You want food from all over the world that most people in Belleville have never eaten. As a cockroach crawls over your shoe, you get the bright idea to serve your customers "creepy crawlies". The world is full of bugs (10,000,000,000,000,000,000 (10 quintillion)); why not make use of them. Before you can open up your restaurant, you need to research who is eating which bugs and how. Hold on to your stomach and watch what you step on.

Locate information on three "creepy crawly" creatures that people eat. For each one you will:
(You will use Microsoft Word - put each group on a different page - check out the example at the bottom of the page.)

The Process

  1. You will look for information using the provided links. You may use other sources.
  2. Identify three different insects or worms that people eat. Write a short, informational paragraph on the people that eat your insect or worm.
  3. Give an example of a recipe each "creepy crawly" you select.
  4. Remember to cite references. If you need help on how to cite references, check out QP Technology Page Bibliography Samples.
  5. Draw a picture with Paint or Paint It or find a picture of what each recipe will look like when prepared.

You will turn in one page for each insect or worm choice for a total of three pages. See format below.
